Tea Party E Pluribus Unum!
By Dana Matas, Oct. 4, 2009
Since the very first handmade protest signs surfaced back in February, many have been wondering, "Who is leading the Tea Party Movement?" Is it the Republicans or the Independents? Is it Sarah Palin or Ron Paul? Is it this group or that group?
What even the most active of Tea Party enthusiast may not realize is, you need not look any further than your own bathroom mirror to see that the real leader of the Tea Party movement is you. In other words, it is every taxpayer who waves a "Don't Tread on Me" flag or who helps to organize a Tea Party. It is the mom who picks up the phone to call her Representative demanding her family be represented. And it is every individual speaking out for the first time, not just about their dissatisfaction with the other party, but their own party as well.
The Tea Party Movement is of the People, by the People and for the People. It is the individual's declaration of independence from the politicians and the special interest groups who've sold out the American people in exchange for their own self-serving pursuits. Our collective quest to restore and strengthen our freedoms and the values that founded this country are what keep us moving in lock-step with one another--not any one group or dynamic mouth piece. Thus, any politician or group proclaiming to be "the" leader of the Tea Party Movement either: a.) doesn't get it; or b.) is looking to exploit our frustrations.
Don't be fooled. There is no entity that is going to swoop in and save the day. There is no one bill we can defeat in Congress that will make everything better so we can go back to the complacency from which we just awoke. And there is no amount of turnover within elected office that will wipe clean the corruption that plagues our government. The success of the Tea Party Movement doesn't rest with any one accomplishment, group or person, but rather the continued effort of the individual to hold government accountable as only he or she can.

Today, as we find ourselves in the worst economic downturn in our nations history, people are worried. I’m worried too. We’re faced with the reality that government has created a dependent class of people.
Great Post and keep up the great work.

I do not support the current health care legislation.
I am college educated but my quality of life has suffered because of the U.S. federal government's presence in my life for 10 years. I have been victimized and my rights trampled upon because I have pre 9/11 information. Most recently, in 2005 and 2006, the government decided to implant (electrodes/RFID) me without my consent. Since, I have experienced physical health problems.
Due to income, I qualify for state government-run health insurance. Before this, and many years prior, I had held private insurances. I can contrast and attest to the differences of care I have received from the private and public sectors. The state government-run plan is rationed and includes sloppy communication, long waiting times and red tape inefficiencies. Moreover, the health care overseers refuse to treat problems associated with the implants. They have told me to consult with radiology experts (out-of-pocket expense) outside of their state-run facility to determine what the undefined white splatterings are are around my ears.
I am living proof that nothing good ever comes from government bureaucracy.
The federal government can not regulate, oversee or provide quality health care. Allowing the federal government more control over the health care industry will be disastrous for patients, doctors, investors, researchers and the economy.
Increasing taxes on products and services in the medical industry is wrong. Ultimately, it is the private sector that will be paying unjustifiable bills and the tax money the government takes will be squandered.
I do not want the U.S. federal government overtaking the medical industry. The government created some of the current inflation and health insurance problems within the medical industry. Regulations do not equal quality care. Quality care is achieved through a free market.
Medical doctors and surgeons are the most needed, skilled and gifted people in our society. I feel for them and for those of us at the hands of big government.
I despise the unethical practices of Washington, D.C. politics and I condemn the injustices I have endured these past 10 years. The expanded role of government has created federal employees who think and act without regard to the private sector. I do not want federal mentalities running the medical industry.
